Our Story

My name is Angeles. I grew up in the northern part of Mexico where it is not always easy to find the ingredients to prepare the immense variety of delicious dishes from our cuisine. I remember my father travelling around the country, especially to Central and South Mexico where more Indigenous people live, looking for specific ingredients and bringing them home for my mother to prepare authentic Mexican recipes. He was teaching my brothers and me about the flavours of every corner of our country.

I can still see my mother in the kitchen, preparing different recipes. Sometimes it took days to fulfill a traditional recipe! She was teaching me to cook not only with natural ingredients but with a mother’s heart, and the importance of cooking some dishes only in cazuelas (traditional clay pots) to get the most amazing flavours and smells. Now in Mis Cazuelas (my cazuelas), I’m recreating those dishes that open the door to a flood of memories, and flavours that evoke feelings of family and comfort. Besides, of course, being delicious!

After coming to Canada, these memories and the need to recover my identity led me to return to my own roots. Instead of trying to become someone else to be able to fit in a new place, I decided to plant my roots into new soil and share my fruits with pride. I hope that my food brings you the same warmth and sustenance that it brings me and my family, and that it inspires you to try new things. Provecho! (Let’s eat!)
